Test Day
What happens on test day?
I am happy to accompany you to the test centre on Test day, in your car. We’d set off 1hr before your test to allow you one last lesson and then test. If you pass your test, your Learner insurance may become invalid for your drive home. My ADI insurance covers me to drive you home in your car.
Alternatively, a family member / friend can accompany you to test, provided they are aged 21 or older and have held a driving license for 3 years. They can also drive you home when you pass, provided they are insured for the vehicle.
If you prefer to hire the Dual Control Arnold Clark car, then your accompanying driver would be the person who co-signed the hire agreement. I suggest hiring the car at least 1.5hrs prior to the start of your test to give you plenty time to acclimatise to that car. I won’t be able to accompany you to Arnold Clark unfortunately.
Why don’t I provide my car for test?
Over recent years more and more people are using their own cars for the actual test. This gives the learner complete control on how many lessons they choose to have. Whilst I will always offer my honest advice on how “test ready” you are, it’s nice to know you can take the test when YOU feel you want to, without feeling that you’re spending a never ending amount of money on lessons.
Also, you won’t need to secure my availability on test day. My diary is usually booked quite far in advance which makes it difficult when arranging a test date that works for us both. By using your own car and asking a parent to accompany you, we avoid the whole issue of matching diaries.
Another advantage is lower lesson prices. By not providing my car for driving tests, I can keep my prices more competitive. Driving schools who provide their car for the test have to cover all risks to that vehicle, which is reflected either in their lesson prices, or restrictive packages that insist on 40hrs or more.
Can I use my own car for my lessons?
If your skills are significantly beyond the basic level of car control, then yes. I will save a little fuel and so my lesson price will be slightly reduced. This can be a good option to build confidence with your own car for the test.
